Despite two notes in my planner to write this update, I thought it needed to go up some time next week. Not the case, so here we are, better late than never!
I did turn in my last paper for my graduate program last night, which counts for something.
Some updates
It was a lot of fun to have people write that they used the book lists I posted last month to shop! And it was also wonderful that I got some great recommendations in return. If you missed the lists, they’re the previous eight posts.
What I’m reading
When I started my grad program, I tole myself I’d read every word assigned to me. I mostly kept up, but have a few things to finish from these past three and a half years of classes. The goal is to finish it all before the O Antiphons get started. We’ll see.
What my kids are reading
One of my children is reading A Christmas Carol for a school project. I read it alongside my oldest two years ago and found it to be wonderful reading, especially this time of year. The audiobook I borrowed from my library was great, highly recommend.
I’ve posted a couple of times, I think, about reading The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles with my daughter. We finished it recently and it took a turn at the end we didn’t see coming. Neither of us really enjoyed it either, so I’m not sure I can recommend this as highly as I’d hoped.
Something I love
In the weeks leading up to Advent, Fr. Mike Schmitz offered a series of homilies called “Made for Worship.” They were so great in further understanding the Mass—what it is and and why we do what we do. Extra great when read alongside my reading for class, Benedict XVI’s The Spirit of the Liturgy.
What I’m creating (knitting, lettering, embroidery, etc.)
I’m the primary gift purchaser and wrapper, and there has been lots to do lately. This week I’m hoping to get back to knitting and some seasonal embroidery. First, I need to get over this cold!
Where my work is
Verily: “Had Enough Pumpkin? These Recipes Will Make You Think Again”
Word on Fire: “Forming Our Daughters to Be Women of God”
What I’m working on
There are some articles I’ve pitched but haven’t yet written, and these are my work for the week ahead. Then, it’s all about getting that thesis ready to submit!
A quote to sit and sip with
The world was blind, the boughs were bent,
All ways and paths were wild:
Then the veil of cloud apart was rent,
And here was born a Child.
The ancient dome of heaven sheer
Was pricked with distant light;
A star came shining white and clear
Alone above the night.
