Since you are a knitter, I'm wondering-have you heard of nalbinding? I met a woman at a medieval fair last weekend who was nalbinding, and I've started learning how to do it. It predates knitting and crocheting and it's been pretty fun so far-and a nice change from what I'm used to with fiber arts.
